Definition:: It is the largest organ of the body.Skin composed of two layers----->

1)Outer epidermis: An epithelial layer of ectodermal origin.
2)Inner dermis: A connective tissue layer of mesodermal origin,

Epidermis:: The epidermis consists of 5 layers(inside to outwards)
a)Stratum basale
b)Stratum spinosum
c)Stratum granulosum
d)Stratum lucidum
e)Stratum corneum
Epidermis derivatives are: hairs, nails, sebaceous gland and sweat glands,
,
Dermis:: Dermjs is connective tissue that supports the epidermis. It contain blood vescle,lymphatics and nerves of that skin. It also contains epidermal derivatives such as: hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous gland.
**Dermis contain two layers::
i)Inner reticular layer
ii)Outer papillary layer
,
Function_of_skin:::::
i) Provides mechanical protection to underlaying tissues
ii) Prevents loss of water and salt
iii) Plays an important role regulation of body temperature
iv) Helps in vit-D synthesis
v) Pigments in epidermis layer protect that tissues against that harmful effect of light
vi) It is a very important sensory organ.
vii)It is a primary tissue of immunity
