Definition : It is the vaginal discharge for the first forthright during puerprium 


Discharge site : From uterine body ,cervix vagina 
Odour : offensive fishy smell 
Reaction : Alkaline in reaction 

Clinical features of Lochia ;
1.Odour ; if offensive indicates infection 
2.Amount ;
               Scanty : Infection ,lochiometra ,premature labour 
               Excessive ; infection ,twin pregnancies 
3.Colour ; Persistence of red colour beyond the normal limit signifies sub involution ,retained bits of conceptus 
4.Duration : During of lochia alba beyond 3 weeks suggests local genital
